Raptor Retrofit

The Raptor Retrofit Project was formulated in 2000 to aid cranberry growers in making their utility poles raptor-friendly. Ospreys can be electrocuted when building nests on live poles. This project retrofits live utility poles with anti-nest devices or alternative nesting platforms to prevent electrical outages and raptor kills. Maintenance of these nesting sites is crucial. Nesting platforms need to be cleaned off every few years to prevent vegetation growth that eventually prohibits the birds from finding space to lay their eggs.

This program is supported by the A. D. Makepeace Neighborhood Fund.
